The problem with the gays pt.2: Gays and God

2 Nov

Many people feel that being gay is a sin, and etc etc etc. I guess I never thought being gay was any more of a sin than gossiping, cheating, lying, being envious and the like.  I personally believe God’s love is for everybody and anyone willing to accept it.  B.Scott definitely has, and in that video I want to cry because I have done what he’s doing.  I have sat listening to gospel crying because I’m so blessed, and even conversely when in need of a blessing. So to me that means more than the face that I’m straight and he’s gay, the fact that we share a love in the Lord is MUCH more important that the labels and judgements of man.

The Bible clearly states:

Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is the great and foremost commandment. “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

My question to you is, does this make you uncomfortable? Why? In a society where being who you are (for a GLBT person) can have you ridiculed, harassed, mocked, beaten, attacked, etc. why should you then be denied spiritual peace?  As it relates to black women, there are many women who just will not come out.  Whether it has to do with religious reasons, fear of rejection, fear of abandonment (from family and friends), or other reasons, it boils down to not being allowed to be who you are.  That can send a person SPIRALING into depression.  If you think it doesn’t relate to the purpose of this blog, think again.  Isn’t it all about being free to be yourself? Being comfortable in your own skin? Have people around you who love and accept you for you who are?

Isn’t that what everybody wants?  So if I were gay, are you saying I’m not allowed to have that?  Isn’t that what a white man said to our great grandmother 60 years ago?

    Nope. You’re not allowed.

And don’t EVEN compare it to being Black…because you know…it’s impossible to be BORN gay.

    Didn’t you know that’s a choice?

And didn’t you know if you CHOOSE to be gay you deserve to marginalized in life?

    icant today…

@KaNisa, what gives you the power to determine who is allowed to be accepted for who they are? and what is the proof that you are relying on in saying that it is “impossible” to be born gay?

    Yep.

I’d just come from commenting on a blog where a chick said all of the above and more.

“Wow, I guess I’m going to be the black sheep in the corner and say HELL NO I do not support homosexuality, LGBT groups or anything affiliated with it.

I believe homosexuality is a choice and will always believe that. Gender confusion at a younge age is common as boys and girls learn what society considers appropriate for dudes and dudettes. But wanting to convert over to the other team cuz you think that’s where you belong? I’m sorry not buying it. We look down on people wanting to lighten their skin tone, but support switching sexes?

I did come from a conservative Christian family and there are a few homosexuals in the fam, but they know we don’t accept it or tolerate it, and stay out of family functions. I too was threathened by my father that he would disown and/or terminate life had me and my brother decided to switch teams. And I support that message today…”

I’ve known a few diff cultures, but the extreme religious views in the US NEVER stop to shock me (in a negative way), unfortunately despite being a ‘developed’ country, we still have a long way to go…

tell me about it…for an individual to even contemplate disowning a family member and see that as being perfectly fine is beyond comprehension to me. sad.

How often we encounter the closed minds of those who confess to be good christians. I ask you, why in the hell would someone choose to be hated? I believe we all need some kind of spirital guidance but when I read comments like the one from the young lady about being a good christian and hating those in her family who confess to being gay, I know why I don’t support organized religion. If this is what they are teaching in our religious communities then I’m better off not being apart of one. I believe that Jesus said to love everyone. I don’t recall the part about “except gays.” This hate preaching is the same kind of preaching and teachings they used to keep the races seperate. Ignorance is alive and well and we have the nerve to talk about progress. WAKE UP!!!
